There are just over three weeks to go until our Brussels conference, “Animal Protection and EU Law: Recent Developments and Prospective Change.”
Co-organized with the Fondation Droit Animal, Éthique & Sciences (LFDA), the day-long gathering on Tuesday 18th November will take stock of the announcements made by the European Commission and the Member States in the context of the revision (“modernization”) of EU animal welfare legislation.
The speakers and panel members – who will include policymakers from the EU institutions, animal advocacy representatives, and academics – will propose solutions to ensure the announced modernization delivers optimal results for animals, including identifying convergence opportunities between animal protection and economic objectives, such as fair competition and economic efficiency.

In her latest paper, our Legislative Advocacy Manager, Gabriela Kubíková, examines the legislation governing the welfare of chickens. She stresses the need for a more evidence-based approach to animal welfare law and policy, emphasizing the necessity of revising the current legislative standards – as well as entirely re-thinking the broader food system in which these and billions of other animals are exploited.
Alice Di Concetto will speak about regulatory alignment between Ukrainian and EU animal welfare law at the Ukrainian Veterinary Medicine Fund Congress in June.
Registration closes this week for June’s UK Animal Law Conference, at which our Executive Director, Alice Di Concetto, will be giving a presentation on animals in economic law with Professor Aude Solveig Epstein. Co-organized by the UK Centre for Animal Law (A-law) and the Multispecies Collective.
