Gabriela leads the Institute’s policy advocacy on animal welfare, with a particular focus on strengthening the protection of farmed animals under European Union law.
A lawyer by training, Gabriela has been engaged in the Brussels animal advocacy bubble since 2021, working to advance the legal and institutional recognition of animals’ interests within EU policymaking. Prior to this, she gained experience in the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) Secretariat, and later at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE).
Gabriela holds a PhD in law from Charles University in Prague, where she specialized in EU farmed animal law. Her doctoral research bridged legal analysis and animal welfare science to critically examine how effectively EU legislation safeguards the welfare of animals in farming systems. In 2024, her thesis was published by Wolters Kluwer in Czech (Dobré životní podmínky hospodářských zvířat v právu Evropské unie).
